Sash Window Projects

Our sash window work ranges from single-window cord replacements to whole-property replacement programmes across Victorian and Georgian terraces. Projects shown include:

  • Made-to-measure Accoya box sash window replacements in conservation area properties in Islington and Wandsworth
  • Sash window restoration programmes on Victorian terraces in Hackney and Lambeth — cord replacement, timber splicing, draught-proofing and redecoration
  • Slim double-glazed unit upgrades within existing period sash frames
  • Fineo vacuum glazing installations in listed building properties where standard double glazing was not permitted
  • uPVC-to-timber conversions restoring correct sash proportions and profiles on Edwardian terraces in Ealing

Door Projects

Our door work covers everything from front door replacements that define a property's street presence to internal door sets that bring consistency across a newly renovated floor.

Examples include:

  • Bespoke Accoya front doors in period panel designs for Victorian properties in Hammersmith and Islington
  • Timber French door installations to rear elevations, including threshold and sill design for level garden access
  • Four- and six-panel internal door sets in painted softwood for whole-house renovation programmes
  • Listed building door restorations where the original door was retained and structurally repaired

Staircase and Balustrade Projects

Staircase work varies significantly in scope. Some clients need a complete replacement; others achieve a transformative result by replacing only the balustrade while keeping the original string and tread structure.

Projects shown include:

  • Full dog-leg staircase replacements in Victorian terraces, with new painted pine closed-tread flights and period-correct turned spindles
  • Open-tread oak staircases with glazed balustrades for contemporary rear extensions
  • Balustrade replacements — replacing outdated painted softwood spindles with oak square-section and glass infill designs
  • Handrail replacements where the original staircase was otherwise in good condition

Fitted Furniture and Interior Joinery

Interior joinery is often the most visible evidence of craftsmanship quality in day-to-day use. Projects shown include:

  • Floor-to-ceiling fitted wardrobes designed around chimney breasts and alcoves in period terraces
  • Alcove bookcases with integrated cupboards in living rooms across inner London
  • Home office joinery incorporating shelving, desk and storage in a single fitted unit
  • Under-stair storage in compact Victorian hallways

What to Look for in These Images

When reviewing a joinery portfolio, look beyond the overall effect and focus on the details that indicate real quality:

  • Gap consistency — the gaps between sashes, doors and frames should be even and correct throughout
  • Profile matching — on period properties, profiles should match the surrounding fabric, not merely approximate it
  • Paint finish — no brush marks, runs or build-up at rebates; clean lines at glass-to-frame junctions
  • Hardware integration — ironmongery should sit flush and correctly aligned, not retrofitted around the joinery
  • Transitions — how the joinery meets the surrounding plasterwork, floor or wall says a lot about the care taken on site
