AMB Joinery operates from our workshop in Uxbridge and delivers bespoke timber joinery projects across Greater London. We work in all London boroughs — from Hackney and Islington in the north and east, to Lambeth and Lewisham in the south, and from the City to Ealing and Richmond in the west. There is no part of London we do not cover.

Our projects span the full geography of Greater London, and we are familiar with the planning context, conservation area requirements and typical property stock in each area.
Islington, Hackney, Haringey, Camden, Stoke Newington. This is dense Victorian and Edwardian terrace territory, with extensive conservation area coverage and a high concentration of period sash windows. Article 4 Directions are widespread across Islington and parts of Hackney, meaning planning applications are required even for straightforward window replacements. We are experienced in working within these restrictions and can advise on what consent your specific street requires.
Southwark, Lewisham, Greenwich, Tower Hamlets. A mix of Georgian riverside properties in areas such as Bermondsey and Deptford, Victorian terraces across New Cross and Forest Hill, and converted warehouse and industrial buildings throughout Shoreditch and Whitechapel. Heritage sensitivity varies considerably; we assess the planning position for each project.
Lambeth, Wandsworth, Merton, Croydon. Wandsworth has extensive conservation coverage across Battersea, Clapham and Balham. Lambeth's Brixton and Herne Hill conservation areas cover large swathes of period stock. These boroughs have a high volume of our sash window repair and replacement work, particularly on Victorian terraces and Edwardian semis where the original windows are still in place.
Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea, Richmond, Ealing, Hounslow. Kensington & Chelsea has the highest density of listed buildings and conservation areas of any London borough, and the conservation officers are among the most demanding. We have significant experience of listed building consent applications here, including working with Fineo vacuum glazing specifications to meet conservation requirements for double glazing. Richmond has a high proportion of detached Victorian and Edwardian properties where bespoke joinery is a better fit than any off-the-shelf product.
Ealing, Hounslow, Hillingdon, Uxbridge. This is our home territory. We know the planning departments, the conservation officers, and the typical property stock in these boroughs well. Many of our most complex heritage joinery projects are here, across the Victorian and Edwardian streetscapes of Ealing and the conservation areas of the Colne Valley corridor.
The most common property type in inner London. Typically two or three storeys, with two to eight sash windows per floor elevation. Original box sash windows in a single or two-over-two configuration are common. Our sash window repair and replacement work is most concentrated here.
Similar to Victorian stock but often with slightly larger sash windows, more prominent horns and larger panes. Frequently found in Outer London boroughs — Ealing, Islington outskirts, Hackney, Lewisham.
Concentrated in Central and Inner London: Islington, Camden, Kensington, Bermondsey riverside. These properties often carry listed building status. Six-over-six sash windows with slender glazing bars are characteristic. Replacement work here requires careful profile matching and often Fineo vacuum glazing to meet conservation requirements.
Common across Outer London boroughs. Casement windows are typical rather than sash, and a higher proportion of our work here involves bespoke front doors, fitted furniture and staircase upgrades rather than window restoration.
London has more conservation areas than any other English city — over 1,000 designated areas covering approximately one-third of all properties in the inner boroughs. Many of our projects are in or adjacent to conservation areas, and planning compliance is a standard part of our survey and specification process.
We identify the planning position for your specific property — whether permitted development applies, whether an Article 4 Direction removes that right, whether listed building consent is required — and advise on what, if anything, needs to be applied for before work starts.
